By now you must have heard about the enormous earthquake that’s struck the British royal family. On Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (colloquially known as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle) announced they will be attempting to extricate themselves from the rest of the British royal family. Though reportedly disappointed and surprised, the Queen indicated in a statement on Thursday that she and the other senior royals will be cooperating to make the exit possible. So then, among many of the questions one might have about how the Sussexit will go down, there’s this:
What will become of their waxy surrogates? The London Madame Tussauds, wax figure museum of international import, announced Thursday it would move Meghan and Harry away from the rest of the royal family to “mirror their ‘progressive new role within the Royal institution.’” The familial rift, now rendered in wax too. And the New York outpost will follow suit. Brittany Williams, a spokesperson for Madame Tussauds New York told Vanity Fair, “Our experiences bring iconic moments to life; to reflect the announcement we will be moving the popular figures to another area in the attraction upon their return to Madame Tussauds New York. We look forward to spending more time with the couple in North America and we will continue to watch to see what the next chapter holds for them.”
Where will they go? Not the “World Leaders” room, somewhere between Abraham Lincoln and the Pope. Nor some new “Notable Canadians” exhibit that they inspired. Their new home will be the “A-List Party” room, alongside figures of Markle’s friend Priyanka Chopra, various and sundry Kardasho-Jenners, Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, and more. May their real-life reflect their waxed one, and the transition be as easy.
